Tamira and the STEM Connextion

Spotlight Theme 19 Week 4.jpg

Tamira began tutoring in Dallas with students whose families could afford her, and through her supportive and creative teaching efforts, her students emerged from the formation of her tutoring to enter into successful  college careers. But her heart resided with the students who couldn’t afford her services; often they were those who needed it the most. If only they were provided with the support in the form of technology and tutoring, they could succeed, and she knew it. They had all the inner tools, and they deserved the highest quality instruction without financial ability being a barrier.

Tamira dreams of opening a Learning Center to provide high-caliber education and tutoring to all students, regardless of their financial resources, especially children of families dealing with homelessness. She envisions a digital learning lab, able to hold and meet multiple students at a time where they are with their curriculum, while also specifically teaching in STEM skills with a focus in leadership empowerment. Tamira has recently been chosen for a grant that will help bring her closer to this dream, and at the Mix Coworking Space, she’s found the space and the community to help support her along the journey.

When we spoke, Tamira shared how the Mix was instrumental for this dream to begin to emerge. “The Mix was my first container for this dream. It’s a community that supports and believes in me, and has given me access to community in a way that my heart and soul needed. This community provided the container for the creativity to flourish.”
